UPDATE May 15, 2011

Okay, so for any reader who's perhaps been awaiting an update or two--my apologies! Been busy with work and physical therapy, and no news is good news kind of thing.

So, I finished up 6 weeks of physical therapy (in fact, I ended up doing 8 weeks as per my PT Jason's recommendation). How is the knee, you ask? The knee actually has improved dramatically in terms of range of motion, movement, and strength. Or should I say the leg has...I am able to run on the treadmill at 7 mph or 11 kph (did two minute runs with one minute interval walks; last Friday did 7 minutes non-stop...slow and steady as she goes), I have been hitting some tennis balls against the wall and that mobility has been coming along better each time (I've been out twice, and am hoping to move better each time).

Strength in the legs has been a major aspect of the physical therapy work. I'm leg pressing 300 lbs, which feels good and gives me confidence. The down side right now is that I still have a bit of a limp...haven't gotten rid of that yet, so that's a bummer.

Anyway, I've also been playing golf on the weekends, and haven't felt anything bad while swinging the club or while walking 18 holes for about 5 hours. So that's also positive.

Now, I'm AM going to get an MRI soonish, and will definitely post the result of that test for you to read. that's kind of the point of this blog, isn't it? To see if Dr. Jatin Chaudhry's treatment had a healing impact on my torn ACL.

The other thing I have discovered is that the MCL is a pretty major ligament, and while it has been healing on its own, that process is still not completed. So there's weakness in the MCL even today.

But, the good news, at least temporarily, is that I'm NOT getting surgery over the summer. I have improved so much in 3 months and a half that I want to wait it out, and see how I feel say six months since the injury happened. Which would be the end of July. I also want to see what the MRI says. My gut feeling is that there has been some healing to the ACL, but that might just be hopefulness talking.

But, in the meanwhile, I don't see why I should traumatize my body with reconstructive surgery if I am able to pretty much do what I want to do in terms of quality of life activities.

So, to recap: feeling much better, moving much better, not getting surgery over the summer, will get an MRI and post the results on the next entry.

  2. Hey Rahul,

Sorry to hear about your ACL.

Dr. Jatin Chaudhry is definitely worth it. the treatment is 20 days non-stop, and he knows what he's doing.

My ACL is feeling great...I haven't done the MRI yet, the final MRI to scientifically "prove" that it has regrown, the reason being that I'm feeling so good lately, that I don't care to be wasting my time in the MRI hospital.

For example, I'm playing tennis again, basketball, and can run on the treadmill at 11.5 kmph. So, my quality of life is pretty good.

Right now, his treatment is really making me think that I should not need to get reconstructive surgery. That's pretty amazing, considering the American doctor was gung ho about it and thought there's no other way.

Tell him Sujay from NYC says hi.

IF you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask me.

    Cheers!

  3. Hi Sujay,

Thanks. It is comforting to know that surgery is not the only option to return to active sports after a torn ACL.

Can I have your email ID/Number. I wanted to discuss few things with you before I book an appointment with Dr. Jatin.

Also I would like to know how long after tearing your ACL u consulted Dr. jatin. I tore mine 2 months back and plan to show him next month so that makes it three months after tearing my ligament.

    Thanks again.

    Tc

  5. hi, i tore my acl and had tear in the medial meniscus as i twisted my knee while playing volleyball. I am not a sports person. i visited doc jatin chaudhary, but the clinic was a big let down. After reading your blog my confidence has gone up. The doc in mumbai has suggested acl reconstruction surgery. How is your knee feeling now. Also wanted to know more about the laser he used. dont you think the laser might have some side effects?

  6. Hey! Sorry to hear you hurt yourself. I am a big fan of the work Dr. JC does. My knee is pretty amazing right now, considering how badly it was damaged. I actually met the doctor in Delhi recently, and he was very happy with my progress. I am also quite happy. Krishna Poonia was in the news (discus thrower) and she also was commending his treatment. I know the clinic is anti-climactic, but the treatment is first class. I'd be happy to talk to you about it, if you want. see above thread to email me as I'm back in NYC. Depending on your age and commitment, the best thing to do is to try Dr. JC first, and then if you are not satisfied, other avenues of treatment. Oh, the laser is nothing--it's just a light, and you feel nothing at all. Good luck!

  8. Lasik or laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a kind of eye surgery, where the patient has to undergo a laser eye treatment process, in which his/her cornea is re-shaped to proffer better sight. To get rid of eye sight related issues, and to get rid of glasses, there is nothing better than Lasik eye treatment. And as we all know, medical science has been progressing in an unmatchable speed, and if thoroughly evaluated and performed, Lasik can help you to enjoy spectacle less life. In most cases, after undergoing Lasik, patient doesn't need to wear glasses. But if the patient is above 40, he/she may need to wear reading glasses that too if both eyes were corrected for clear distance vision.

  9. My acl didn't heal!! Wasted my time and money!!
I read somewhere on the net that Dr. Jatin Chaudhary can heal ACL TEAR without surgery using some magical needles. I read he healed the cricketer Yuvraj Singh's ACL TEAR.So, In the hope of healing my leg without surgery I went to Dr. Jain Chaudhary. I got to know that it will be a 21 days treatment, daily fee for the treatment would be Rs.1000(21000 for 21 days hellllll) and food supplements worth (Rs. 20000 to 30000).
I just wanted to heal my knee so went with the treatment. Now day by day I didn't feel any improvement in my leg. I kept telling the doctor that my leg is not improving, but he was like you will start feeling the improvement in your leg today. After 21 days of treatment, he wanted me to go for an MRI(5K to 7K) but I didn't because my leg was in the same state as before the treatment. I followed everything he suggested month on month and it's been more than 8 months and my leg DIDN'T HEAL. Since my leg was not healing, I went for MRI to see the position on my knee and MRI shows the same Partial ACL TEAR! All my money and time wasted.

    All in ALL:

Either he is fooled me or He just care for Celebrities like Yuvraj Singh.
